JEALOUS OF THE BIRDS PLASTIC SKELETONS

Belfast-based songwriter Naomi Hamilton has been making music under the moniker of Jealous of the Birds since 2014. Whilst studying creative writing at university, Hamilton penned her promising EP Capricorn and charming debut album Parma Violets, which saw a unique blend of folk-inspired dreampop and unexpected sharp corners. It's 2018 and having now graduated, Jealous of the Birds' newest work, 'Plastic Skeletons' is undoubtedly her most accomplished to date. Opening up with a worldy drum beat, funky bass line and exotic percussion, Hamilton's low-pitched vocals channel Stereolab's Laetitia Sadier before bursting into an absolute banger of a chorus. Inspired by her first trip to America, 'Plastic Skeletons'' sharp, observational lyrics make for a truly engaging listen, showing off a newfound sense of confidence that can be destined for greatness. The track comes alongside news of Hamilton's new EP The Moths of What I Want Will Eat Me In My Sleep, which will be released via Canvasback Music in the US and Hand in Hive in the UK. Catch her at our Alternative Escape showcase at the Mucky Duck on Friday the 18th of May. -Holly Mullineaux
